Au Départ, founded in Paris in 1834, is a French brand specializing in luggage and travel goods entirely manufactured in Italy. Ernest and Paul Bertin bought the Au Départ shop in front of the Gare du Nord in 1847 and opened another on Avenue de l'Opéra in 1874. The Bertin Frères also invented several patented methods, including a new manufacturing technique that makes hides and leather waterproof. During Milan Design Week 2019, the brand was relaunched with an installation of old trunks from the historical archive and the introduction of new pieces.
